Poppy Yusfidawaty was born in Bandung in 1972, as the fifth of seven children of H. Kemal Johan and Hj. Titi Supiyati. She had Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian and German Indonesian ancestry from her maternal grandmother, who was descended from the Grabosch family.
