Lieutenant General Augustus Henry Lane Fox Pitt Rivers FRS FSA FRAI (14 April 1827 – 4 May 1900) was an English officer in the British Army, ethnologist, and archaeologist. [1] He was noted for innovations in archaeological methodology, and in the museum display of archaeological and ethnological collections.
On 20 September 1814, Lane-Fox was married to Georgiana Henrietta Buckley (1874–1894), a "society figure of dubious virtue" who was a daughter of Edward Pery Buckley, of Minestead Lodge, Hampshire, [4] and the former Lady Georgiana West (a daughter of the 2nd Earl De La Warr) who had been a Lady of the Bedchamber to the royal princesses.
