Green Brook Township is a township in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.It is centrally located within the Raritan Valley region.As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 7,281, [9] [10] an increase of 78 (+1.1%) from the 2010 census count of 7,203, [19] [20] which in turn reflected an increase of 1,549 (+27.4%) from the 5,654 counted in the 2000 census.
As of the 2022–23 school year, the district, comprised of two schools, had an enrollment of 671 students and 62.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.7:1. [1] The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings.
Prior to the completion of the district's own high school, students from Dunellen had attended Plainfield High School (in place from 1906 until 1925) and then Bound Brook High School (from 1925 to 1935). Over the years, the high school also accepted students from Green Brook Township, Manville and Middlesex. [6] [7]
