Summerhill School is an independent (i.e. fee-charging) day and boarding school in Leiston, Suffolk, England. It was founded in 1921 by Alexander Sutherland Neill with the belief that the school should be made to fit the child, rather than the other way around.

Ena May Neill (née Ena May Wooff, formerly Ena May Wood; 29 May 1910 – 26 October 1997) was a British head teacher at Summerhill School.She managed the school for years on behalf of the founder, A. S. Neill, before she became the head officially in 1973.
Neill credited Summerhill's environment instead of himself for the school's reformatory successes. [4] Neill used to offer psychoanalytic therapy ("private lessons", since he was not a licensed therapist [ 16 ] ) for children who arrived as delinquents from other institutions, but later found love, affirmation and freedom to be better cures.
The school was built by Brierley Hill Urban District Council in 1961, and serves an area of Kingswinford which was mostly developed after the Second World War.The catchment for the school is bounded in the south by Lawnswood Road (Wordsley), in the east by Stream Road and Moss Grove (Kingswinford) and in the north and west by the county boundary between West Midlands and Staffordshire.

Tavistock and Summerhill School, located in Lindfield just 4 minutes from the heart of Haywards Heath, West Sussex was an independent day mixed nursery to preparatory school established in 1973 following the merger of Tavistock Hall and Summerhill Court. It closed down on 26 October 2015. The headteacher before closure was Dr Sandra Hastie.
