The Benzie County Courthouse was constructed in 1912 as a recreation center and hotel, named The Grand. Schoolcraft Township is a civil township of Houghton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census , the township had a population of 1,992. [ 3 ] The township was organized in 1866.
As of the census [1] of 2000, there were 2,747 people, 1,011 households, and 630 families residing in the township. The population density was 58.1 inhabitants per square mile (22.4/km 2).
George Noyes made the first land purchase in the area as early as 1824. The county's first school, the McCracken School, was built here in 1825. The settlement was formally named Pitt in 1831 and was named in honor of former English prime minister William Pitt. A post office named Pitt opened on January 21, 1835 but closed on September 14, 1836.
Bark River Township is a civil township of Delta County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the township population was 1,595, [3] slightly up from 1,578 at the 2010 census. The township takes its name from the Bark River.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 131.28 square miles (340.01 km 2), of which 121.99 square miles (315.95 km 2) is land and 9.29 square miles (24.06 km 2) (7.08%) is water. It is the largest municipality by area in Iosco County.
