  2. Bomber Losses: USAAF vs RAF | Aircraft of World War II -...

    ww2aircraft.net/forum/threads/bomber-losses-usaaf-vs-raf.18658

If that is how many bombers the USAAF lost including both B-17's and B-24's, then their losses were actually quite lower than the RAF night bombers, which was 10,000 night bombers lost. Which can present the argument that in the end, strategic bombing paid off. Last edited: May 21, 2009. May 21, 2009. #14.

Vought SB2U Vindicator dive bombers were also called "vibrators" or "wind indicators" by some of their pilots. I believe the "wind indicator" nickname came in part because of the tendency of some of its fabric covering getting tattered or frayed and fluttering in the wind.

Anyway in his book Cheshire was an observer in one of the B29s that flew in the Nagasaki raid, witnessing the dropping of the atomic itself changed Cheshire's life but one of the points that Cheshire took great care to mention very clearly was how advanced the B29 was in comparison to the other World War Two planes he had flown in and how much ...

This would be an example described for May 1943, 305BG whose authorized sqaudron levels were for 12 B-17s per Squadron, but probably 60+ B-17s actually in the Group at peak strength. In 1945 the number of B-17s and B-24s withing the group on VE Day (assuming no more losses after April 25) would be 72. Apr 2, 2012.

Nov 8, 2005. I probably know less about WWII Italian bombers than any other category of aircraft. This is about the extent of what I do know: Savoia-Marchetti SM-79. This was the famous 3 engined bomber used throughout the war, could drop torpedoes as well. Caproni Ca-135.

Like other dive bombers the Me-410 has exceptionally accurate weapons delivery. Prior to 1943. Ju-88A. Performance similiar to Me-410A except not as fast. IMO the Do-217 doesn't belong on your list. Range/payload of 1941 Do-217 was similiar to 1941 B-17 and that aircraft is normally considered a heavy bomber.
