A list of the best minions for Lichs. 5th Edition. The Lich is the king of DnD undead, being as powerful, knowledgeable, and as accomplished as any undead or even any kind of spellcaster in the game. A lich can easily be the central antagonist for a campaign, and with that comes a need for minions, underlings, allies, henchmen, goons, and so on.
A complete guide to lichdom in 5th edition. Mechanics. Requirements: Any humanoid creature of evil alignment that can cast 9th-level wizard spells. You need to perform the following tasks: Craft a phylactery and imbue it with the power to contain the beneficiary's soul. Concoct a potion of transformation that turns the beneficiary into a lich.
In 3.5e, a vampire cannot become a lich. Only humanoids (and some other creatures, such as specific aberration and monstrous humanoid races) can become liches, and vampires have the "undead" type, not the "humanoid" type. I would allow the vampire a Fortitude save; if they pass, the ritual fails. If they fail, they die.
Unique Lich Ideas. 5th Edition. The Lich, an iconic villain. They are one of the highest CR undead in 5e edition and can be found all throughout fantasy. And yet, at least in 5e, that stat block is kinda boring. If you remove the lich's lair, it is basically just an 18th level wizard with a few added resistance and saving throws.
Designing a lich's lair. DMing. TL;DR at the bottom. In my campaign setting, there's a quiet farming village in the middle of some grassy plains. Nothing ever entirely bad ever happens there. It's a nice place, albeit boring to some people. Beneath the village is an Undermountain-style dungeon, created and inhabited by a lich and his various ...
A lich isnt strong by itself, it’s given better stats in DnD because it’s an end-game monster. Realistically, a lich would be strong because they have dedicated numerous decades to study magic because they are undead. A lich may also command a legion of undead. You can do all those things by following a different path.
The lich is a CR 21 creature with lots of frightening abilities (casts 9th level spells, has legendary actions/resistance, is immune to nonmagic attacks, returns to unlife with rejuvenation 1d10 days after defeat, etc.)... but it only has 135 HP. Thus, a lich is actually extremely easy to defeat in a straight up fight.
All of those spells behave differently in their older versions than they do in 5e standards. Meanwhile, the Potion of Transformation necessary to become a Lich is crafted using a wide variety of vile methods, and includes Permanency along with the following spells: Wraithform. Cone of Cold. Feign Death.
Why this works for a lich's lair: Liches have great business sense and are trusted by their employees. The Lazav can change its damage type and test if the person coming through the room has the lich's damage immunities and resistances to test that it's really the lich. 6. The Portal Room. This room is a suffocation zone. When the characters ...
All of which are centered towards a gleaming golden deathmask of the lich, which is protected by lots of magical defenses. However the real phylactery is one of the small stones (actually made of adamantium with a stone covering, behind the death mask on the wall. 118 votes, 229 comments.
