It included the original Frankish-ruled territories within what had been the northernmost part of Roman Gaul , and cities such as Cologne , Trier and Metz .

He received the kingdom of Austrasia plus the cities (civitates) of Poitiers, Tours, Le Puy-en-Velay, Bordeaux, and Châteaudun, as well as the Champagne, the Auvergne, and Transjurane Alemannia.
Theudebald (in modern English, Theobald; in French, Thibaut or Théodebald; in German, Theudowald) (534 – 555), son of Theudebert I and Deuteria, was the king of Metz, Rheims, or Austrasia—as it is variously called—from 547 or 548 to 555.
