Built in 1916 and enlarged in 1929, it is one of the few surviving grand mountain resort hotels in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Salem was settled in the 17th century as part of Methuen, Massachusetts, and was incorporated in 1750, after the border between Massachusetts and New Hampshire was fixed, dividing that town. The Salem Common was laid out about 1741, not far from the original location of the building now known as the Old Town Hall.
Crawford House was a grand hotel in Crawford Notch, New Hampshire, United States. The original hotel was built in 1850 and destroyed by fire in 1859.
