The newfound interest in her work inspired her to write more songs to perform, and in 1967 she released a record created with her grandchildren, which took its name from one of her songs, "Shake Sugaree". The song featured 12-year-old Brenda Joyce Evans, Cotten's great-grandchild, and future Undisputed Truth singer. [citation needed]

Shake Sugaree - Taj Mahal Sings and Plays for Children is a 1988 album by American blues artist Taj Mahal. [1] The title comes from one of the tracks, and was itself the title track of a 1967 album by Elizabeth Cotten, recorded in February 1965. Authorship of the song is attributed to Cotten.
It's misleading to say this is an album by Taj Mahal when it's named after a song that he didn't write that's on it and which is more famous than the album. Elizabeth Cotten might or might not have written it but she certainly recorded a version that's much earlier than this album and, probably, than Taj himself.

York and Hale cut a version of Buddy Holly's "Peggy Sue" for King, with a remake of Roy Brown's "Shake 'Em Up Baby" on the B-side. [3] York then teamed up with Midwestern Hayride's vocalist Bonnie Lou in a rockabilly project.
Here I’m thinking of Elizabeth Cotten’s “Shake Sugaree” in particular. Since this page is about “Sugaree” by the Grateful Dead, shouldn’t these other songs, which aren’t necessarily related except via the uncommon expression “shake sugaree,” have their own pages? magnificat 00:55, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
