Horizontal ordered lists only support numbers. type - the type of marker used in ordered lists. This template uses the .hlist CSS class defined in MediaWiki:Common.css to generate horizontal lists. It causes ordinary html list items to be displayed inline (horizontally), where they would normally display as block elements (vertically). The class also generates the interpuncts between list items and parentheses around nested lists.
For simplicity, list items in pure wiki markup cannot be more complex than a basic paragraph. A line break in the wikimarkup of a list item will end not just the item but the entire list, and reset the counter on ordered lists.
Blank lines between items of an ordered list will not only cause the same broken-list problems as in bulleted lists, but will also restart the numbering at "1". This cannot be fixed without complex markup (defeating ease-of-editing expectations), so double-spacing should always be avoided in numbered lists.
