In the early 20th century, four trains per day stopped near the hot springs, transporting guests to the hotel and bathhouses. [5] In 1914, a fire occurred that halted the business for a time, and in 1927 a new hotel was built. [4] [5] In 1916, the property was sold to George Forsythe who rebuilt the hotel and expanded the site to attract tourism.
The resort was originally named after the Gregson brothers that purchased the area in 1869, but was given its current name after being acquired in the early 1970s by Lloyd Wilder. Wilder sold the resort in 1981, but later repurchased it. [7] [8] [9] In early 2020, the resort was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wild Horse Hot Springs is located 2.5 miles (4.0 km) outside of the town of Hot Springs, in Lake County, Montana, United States. [2] Wild Horse was developed in 1913 when a well driller hit 128 °F (53 °C) hot water, and has "private plunges, but little else." [3] Wild Horse was originally known as Camp Aqua Bath House. [4]
