The town began celebrating the arrival of the birds in 1957, and today as many as 50,000 visitors visit the Hinckley Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks in the town annually on "Buzzard Day" to witness the return of the avian residents. The township derives its name from Medina, in Arabia. The original name for the Township was to be Mecca, but was changed after a dispute among early settlers. [4] It is the only Medina Township statewide. [5] The township is attributed as being the oldest organized government in Medina County.
