The Jefferson Hotel in Shreveport, Louisiana is a four-story brick railway hotel that was built in 1922. [2] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. [ 1 ] It also became a contributing property of Shreveport Commercial Historic District when its boundaries were increased on May 16, 1997 .
The casino hotel opened as Hollywood Casino Shreveport in December 2000 as the fifth riverboat casino in the Shreveport-Bossier City market. The casino, at its opening, featured a 30,000 square foot casino with a 14 floor hotel and multiple restaurants. It cost $230 million to construct and was originally owned Hollywood Casino Corporation. [5]
First known as Harrah's Shreveport, the hotel was purchased in 2004 by Boyd Gaming from Harrah's Entertainment. Harrah's sold this casino after acquiring Horseshoe Gaming Holding Corporation. The casino opened under Boyd's Sam's Town brand on May 20, 2004, becoming the fifth casino to operate under that name.
The real estate was purchased from over 800 property owners via a $1,500,000 municipal bond issue approved by Shreveport voters in 1929 in fulfillment of the pledge that the citizens of Shreveport made to the U.S. government. The last of these bonds matured on December 31, 1959.
