The Hives was formed in 1993 by brothers Per "Pelle" Almqvist (Howlin' Pelle Almqvist) and Niklas Almqvist (Nicholaus Arson) in Fagersta. [4] Friends of the brothers, Mikael Karlsson (Vigilante Carlstroem), Mattias Bernvall (Dr. Matt Destruction) and Christian Grahn (Chris Dangerous), soon joined the band and took punk rock-inspired stage names like the brothers. The album is the first release to feature bassist The Johan and Only, following the departure of Dr. Matt Destruction in 2013. [8] The band had several headlining shows in New York and California in early May 2023, following that by supporting Arctic Monkeys on a UK stadium tour starting on 27 May 2023.

Tarred and Feathered is a vinyl-only EP by Swedish band the Hives, released in 2010 on the No Fun AB label. Recorded live-to-tape, it consists of three cover songs from bands that have influenced the Hives. As a gag for the EP, the band members were covered in some unidentified gooey substance (as actual liquid tar is scalding hot) and feathers.
