The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) is a professional society representing over 40,000 neurologists and neuroscientists. [1] As a medical specialty society it was established in 1948 by A.B. Baker of the University of Minnesota to advance the art and science of neurology, and thereby promote the best possible care for patients with neurological disorders.
Neurology is a weekly peer-reviewed medical journal covering research in neurology. It is published by Wolters Kluwer on behalf of the American Academy of Neurology, of which it is the official journal. It has been edited since April 2020 by José G. Merino (Georgetown University).
The Sheila Essey Award for ALS Research was established in 1996 and is sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology. [1] The prize is funded through the philanthropy of the Essey family and the ALS Association. [2]

[4] In April 2017, McArthur was elected to the Association of American Physicians, recognizing his contributions to medical science. In 2019, McArthur became president of the American Neurological Association. [5]
Miller currently serves as Editor of Continuum, AAN's bimonthly continuing education publication, and he is a reviewer for many prominent journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Neurology and the Archives of Neurology as well as co-author of one of the most-frequently cited articles in Brain: A Journal of Neurology.
