Son Gohan (Japanese: 孫 悟飯) is a fictional character in the Japanese franchise Dragon Ball created by Akira Toriyama.Gohan is the first son of the protagonist Son Goku and his wife Chi-Chi and made his appearance in chapter #196 "Kakarrot", published in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on October 8, 1988.
Cell initially thinks that Gohan is making the same mistake that Trunks did, by simply powering up. Eventually though, Gohan fully transforms into a Super Saiyan 2, to the amazement of the Z Fighters. Gohan is fully powered up now, to the delight of Cell, until Gohan snatches the bag of Senzu beans from Cell before he realizes it.
Cell finally unleashes his full power against Gohan, but even at maximum strength his attacks have no effect on the Super Saiyan 2. Gohan cripples Cell with 2 powerful punches, leaving him in shock. Cell resorts to using two heat-seeking Kienzans, but Gohan is able to catch and destroy them.
Dragon Ball Z picks up five years after the end of the Dragon Ball series, with Son Goku now a young adult and father to his son, Gohan.. A humanoid alien named Raditz arrives on Earth in a spacecraft and tracks down Goku, revealing to him that he is his long-lost older brother and that they are members of a near-extinct elite alien warrior race called Saiyans (サイヤ人, Saiya-jin).

Gohan assumes his Super Saiyan 2 form in an effort to defeat Broly who transforms into his Legendary Super Saiyan form. Gohan successfully lures Broly into a pit of lava which consumes him and Gohan passes out from exhaustion before being rescued by Krillin. Moments later, Broly re-emerges and attacks Gohan after incapacitating Krillin.
