Independence Avenue (Belarusian: Праспект Незалежнасці, romanized: Praspiekt Niezaliežnasci; Russian: Проспект Независимости) is the main street of Minsk, the capital of Belarus. Independence Avenue crosses Minsk radially from its centre towards the northeast.

Niamiha Street (also Nyamiha, Nemiga; Belarusian: Вуліца Няміга; Russian: Улица Немига) is a street named after the river of the same name in central Minsk, Belarus. From the 1960s to the 2010s, the street was completely reconstructed losing all but one original building on it.
In the 1830s, major streets and squares of Minsk were cobbled and paved. A first public library was opened in 1836, and a fire brigade was put into operation in 1837. In 1838, the first local newspaper, Minskiye gubernskiye vedomosti ("Minsk province news") went into circulation.

Niamiha Street is part of a shopping district famous for its amber craftwork. The Nyamiha metro station on the street was the site of a human stampede on May 30, 1999. Another incident on Nyamiha Street occurred on July 25, 2004, when a two-hour downpour in Minsk caused the storm sewers to overflow. Nyamiha Street and its environs were flooded.
Several central streets join at the square including Yakub Kolas Street, Parade (Krasnaya) street, Golden Hill (Zalataya Horka), Very Choruzhey Street and Moulyavin Boulevard. Belarus Olympic Committee faces the square from the east. Minsk Production Amalgamation for Computers and Minsk Print Works face the square from the North.
