With a population of 162,954 as of 2020, [10] Hayward is the sixth largest city in the Bay Area, and the third largest in Alameda County. [12] Hayward was ranked as the 36th most populous municipality in California.
The city of Hayward opened Centennial Hall as a convention center in honor of the city's 100th birthday. Before that it was the gymnasium for Hayward Union High School . The hall contained 14,000 square feet (1,300 m 2 ) of exhibit space and a capacity of up to 1,500 for events.
