By the 1970s, KTOP-FM had a separate format from 1490 AM. While KTOP (AM) was a Top 40 station in the 1960s and 70s, KTOP-FM aired an automated country music format. In 1976, the two stations flipped, with KTOP-FM becoming the Top 40 station, playing contemporary hits in FM stereo. During this time, KTOP-FM switched its call letters to KDVV.
Several more stations from the Kansas City metropolitan area broadcast into Topeka. Most of Kansas City's stations are among those gauged in Aribtron's semi-annual surveys. Many Topeka stations also penetrate into the eastern counties of the Wichita media market, notably Saline County , which contains Salina , and the counties around Salina.
After being purchased by Alpha Media USA, KTPK became part of the Alpha Media Topeka group of stations, becoming a sister station to WIBW 580 and WIBW-FM ("The Big 94.5 Country"). WIBW-FM had been doing their own annual radiothons for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and in March 2016, KTPK teamed up with them for the event.
