The Lake Shawnee dam was damaged during a storm in March 2010. The dam had already been under pressure by a snowy winter, causing rising water levels. Route 181 runs north past several ramps of the interchange, paralleling Route 15 through Jefferson Township. The route winds northwest and reaches the eastern shores of Lake Hopatcong, where it reaches the community of Woodport. [2] At Woodport, Lake Hopatcong ends as Route 181 crosses the line from Morris County to Sussex County.
Mount Arlington is home to the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club. Established in 1905, it is a private yacht club located on the small peninsula of Bertrand Island along Lake Hopatcong. [32] The Adirondack style clubhouse structure was completed in 1910 and was added in 1999 to both the National and New Jersey registers of historic places. [33]
