Taraka Ratna married Alekhya Reddy, a divorcee, on August 2, 2012 at the Sanghi Temple. She was a costume designer in one of his films where they met and fell in love. Despite both their families being against the marriage, they got married in the presence of a couple of friends and two family members from Reddy's side.
Alekhya received her PhD for her study of the acting aspect of Kuchipudi dance, with title Kshetrayya Padams and their importance in Abhinaya in Kuchipudi Dance. Alekhya and Naveen slowly fall in love with each other. Alekhya's parents introduce Alekhya to Varun, the scientist son of a family friend, and someone they desire to be Alekhya's husband. Varun actually ends up meeting Alekhya once more as he plays a minor role in Naveen's movie, though he eventually understands and is friendly about it.
The film was a remake of the Bengali film Deep Jwele Jaai. The Bengali film Deep Jwele Jaai was a huge critical and commercial success. Impressed by the story line, producer Vuppunuthula Purushotham Reddy and director G. Ramineedu remade the Bengali film into Chivaraku Migiledi (1960).
