Select the whole document and then click Review tab | Language | Set Proofing Language. In the Language dialog box, clear the "Detect language automatically" option. This is a problem that has occurred in the past day or so. It appears to me that Microsoft WORD is marking "misspelled" words based on a FRENCH dictionary. I do not speak French and did not knowingly do anything to cause this change in behavior. I have an Office 365 subscription; and I believe that there has been an auto-update recently.
In a problem document, try modifying the language of the Normal style. Click Ctrl+Shift+S to display the Apply Styles pane. If necessary, type Normal in the "Style name" box and click Modify. Click the Format drop down and then click Language. Choose your preferred flavor of English and confirm the new settings with OK.
I have typed a document in WORD, in English, but have inserted several phrases in French. The French words require accents...acute, grave, cedilla and circumflex.

My spell check within the email (and all new emails and replies) is suddenly reverting to French. I have set my proofing language to English and it is showing as English, I have go to File>Options>Languages and ensured this is also in English.
