Everything I try to do is slow. Click on an object - 1-2 second delay. Run a simple command - delay. Pan or zoom - delay. I can watch the properties (palette) have to refresh. I even experience delays while using non AutoCAD apps like writing this in Chrome or updating Excel spreadsheets.
Free AUTO-CAD for military. In an advertisement it mentioned that students and military could get auto-cad for free. I am retired Air Force and would like to get your software if possible. I used to use DRAFIX which I think was bought out by AUTODESK. I have an AUTODESK cd but it will not install on my computer. Solved by philip.s. Go to Solution.

We have been building AutoCAD boxes for almost 30 years. In those early DOS AutoCAD on Windows W4WGs boxes days, what we found had the biggest impact was using a custom boot menu w/ different config.sys / autoexec.bat files for CAD (w/ Hurricane Software memory expansion utility), and others for general Windows usage and Gaming.
Many thanks for replying and pasting the link, do you know the reason why AutoCAD 64-bit won't work? My guess is the installer or the Autodesk licensing software requires lower level access that the Microsoft x86 or x64 emulator on WoA 10/11 won't support. The system requirements are just mentioning that it is supported if multi processors are present, but to fully benefit from multi-core processors, you need to use multi-threaded software, AutoCAD is predominantly a single-threaded application. That finite resolution is the reason why most CAD software including Fusion 360 does not natively use meshes to represent 3D geometry (for design input) but uses NURBS / BRep. Those are mathematically precise descriptions of geometry with theoretically infinite resolution and models built with them have topology.
For 2D, 16GB should be plenty. If she does any rendering, that's when AutoCAD chews through the RAM. Or, if she works with large files in Photoshop or other programs, the extra RAM could come in handy. There have been 4K screen issues in the past, but AutoCAD has gradually been improving those issues over the last 2 or 3 versions.
I use a Wacom Intuos as my main input device for cursor-control, including for AutoCAD. First, it basically just replaces the mouse; that's really all it does, except it (can) use absolute positioning instead of relative, meaning each part of the tablet is mapped to a specific point on your screen.
