This is a list of properties and districts in Illinois that are on the National Register of Historic Places. There are over 1,900 in total. Of these, 85 are National Historic Landmarks. There are listings in all of the state's 102 counties. This National Park Service list is complete through NPS recent listings posted January 31, 2025.

[1] There are 35 properties and districts listed on the National Register in the county, including 1 National Historic Landmark. Another two properties were once listed, but have since been removed.

[3] Of those properties, 187 are listed as contributing structures in the district while an additional 22 are non-contributing. [5] Of all the homes and other buildings within the district a full 75% fit within the historic district concept. [6]

[2] It is significant as the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 1839 and 1846, and as an important early example of community planning by the Latter Day Saint movement.
