Anatomy of a Murder is a 1959 American legal drama [2] film produced and directed by Otto Preminger. The screenplay by Wendell Mayes was based on the 1958 novel of the same name written by Michigan Supreme Court Justice John D. Voelker under the pen name of Robert Traver.
After Small Town D.A., Voelker said that he "wanted to write [about] 'a criminal trial the way it really was.'" [7] He selected the Peterson murder trial from 1952. He wrote Anatomy of a Murder in three months and received an acceptance letter from a publisher in December 1956 just days before he was appointed to the Michigan Supreme Court. [7]
