Elmore State Park is located in northern Elmore, a rural community in southern Lamoille County, Vermont. The park covers 755 acres (306 ha), set between Lake Elmore and the summit of 2,608-foot (795 m) Elmore Mountain. Its developed area is located at the northern end of the lake, where Beach Road runs west from Vermont Route 12.
The park had its beginning in 1936 when the town of Elmore and local citizens made a gift of 30 acres on Lake Elmore to the state of Vermont. With modest means, a picnic and beach area were created. Today, with more than 700 acres, Elmore State Park has become a popular, developed recreation facility.
Lake Elmore is in the northwest corner of the town, and drains north via Elmore Pond Brook toward the Lamoille River. Elmore village sits at the northern end of the lake. The Worcester Mountains are on the western side of the town. Mt. Elmore, at the northern end of the range, rises to an elevation of 2,608 feet (795 m) to the west of Lake Elmore.
