A Sitar - Sarod Jugalbandi. A jugalbandi or jugalbandhi is a performance in Indian classical music, especially in Hindustani classical music but also in Carnatic, that features a duet of two solo musicians. [1] [2] The word jugalbandi means, literally, "entwined twins." The duet can be either vocal or instrumental.
The Nepali sarangi is a traditional stringed musical instrument of Nepal, commonly played by the Gaine or Gandarbha ethnic group; the form and repertoire of the instrument in Nepal is more folk oriented than in India, and it is particularly associated with Gandarbha people.
Another writer who referred to the instrument was Abd al-Qadir in his work Maqasid al-Alhan (Persian for: purports of Music)(مقاصد الحان). al-Qadir was interested in the restoration and improvement of stringed musical instruments, and his work provides information about numerous musical instruments, including the shahrud.
