Elkhorn is a western neighborhood of the city of Omaha, Nebraska, United States. The population was 6,062 at the 2000 census and was estimated by the Census Bureau at 8,192 in 2005 before it was annexed into Omaha in 2007.

Chadron was founded as a city in 1884, and grew rapidly as arrival of the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad (FE & MV, a predecessor of the Chicago and North Western Railroad) was expected soon. It hit 3,000 population in two years and 5,500 by 1893, before dropping due to droughts and the Panic of 1893.

The Lincoln Highway in Omaha, Nebraska, runs east–west from near North 183rd Street and West Dodge Road in Omaha, Nebraska, towards North 192nd Street outside of Elkhorn. This section of the Lincoln Highway , one of only 20 miles (32 km) that were paved with brick in Nebraska, [ 2 ] is one of the most well-preserved in the country. [ 3 ]
Elkhorn Township is one of sixteen townships in Cuming County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 244 at the 2020 census . A 2021 estimate placed the township's population at 242.

Continuing east, L-28B meets 228th Street, which extends to Waterloo, at a diamond interchange. It crosses the Elkhorn River and then meets Skyline Drive, in Elkhorn, at a partial cloverleaf interchange. Now in Omaha, the road is named West Dodge Road. L-28B ends at an interchange with westbound U.S. Route 6 and Nebraska Highway 31.
