Waco (/ ˈ w eɪ k oʊ / WAY-koh) is a city in and the county seat of McLennan County, Texas, United States. [8] It is situated along the Brazos River and I-35, halfway between Dallas and Austin.
The airport opened May 5, 1942 as Waco Army Air Field and was the headquarters of the Army Air Force Central Instructors' School during World War II. It was deactivated after the war in 1945 but was reactivated in 1948 as a pilot training base under the Air Training Command .
The XCG-13 contract was for a 30-place design with an 8,000 lb (3,600 kg) useful load capacity to fly 174 mph (280 km/h) at an altitude of 12,000 feet (3,700 m) altitude. Flight testing of the prototype was performed at Clinton County Army Air Field and the type was approved on 10 March 1943.
