The African fish-eagle is the national bird of Namibia. This is a list of the bird species recorded in Namibia. The avifauna of Namibia included a total of 685 confirmed species as of July 2023, of which 1 is endemic, and four have been introduced by humans. One additional species is hypothetical as defined below.
The genus was established by René-Primevère Lesson in 1843, to accommodate a single species, the grey-headed fish eagle, which is therefore considered as the type species. Lesson used two spellings for its name: I c thyophaga and I c thy io phaga , but not I ch thyophaga .
