In 2013, by inhibiting one key enzyme and using modern cultivation methods and optimization techniques, scientists in the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology (IME) in Germany developed a cultivar of the Kazakh dandelion (Taraxacum kok-saghyz) that is suitable for commercial production of natural rubber. [9]
In order to make Germany independent from the importation of natural rubber, the first industrial plant for the production of artificial rubber was built in Schkopau near Halle (Saale) and named Buna-Werke GmbH Schkopau. EPDM rubber (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber) [1] [2] [3] is a type of synthetic rubber that is used in many applications. EPDM is an M-Class rubber under ASTM standard D-1418; the M class comprises elastomers with a saturated polyethylene chain (the M deriving from the more correct term polymethylene).

Rubber compounding means incorporating rubber ingredients into a rubber mixture so it is evenly dispersed, then the rubber mixture is called a rubber compound. The mill aids in two main steps of rubber processing - mastication and mixing. Mastication is when the raw polymer is sheared and the broken down to create an easier flow. This allows ...
