Geographically, Kernersville Township occupies 31.17 square miles (80.7 km 2) in eastern Forsyth County. [2] Much of Kernersville Township consists of the town of Kernersville and a small portion of the town of Walkertown.

North Carolina Highway 68 is the main north-south highway through town, and leads north to US 158 in Stokesdale, and south to Interstates 73 and 40 on the west side of Greensboro; downtown Greensboro is 15 miles (24 km) southeast of Oak Ridge.
North Carolina Highway 66 crosses both highways, leading northwest 10 miles (16 km) to Rural Hall. The future Interstate 74 currently designated as NC Highway 74, bypasses most of the town to the south while following parallel with NC 66; both highways going southeast connect the town to Kernersville, northwest to Rural Hall.
Union Cross is an unincorporated community in southeastern Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States.Parts of the community have been annexed by Kernersville and Winston-Salem as a result of the area's large population growth and the construction of the new Dell plant.
