Giro di Sicilia (English: Tour of Sicily) is a men's multi-stage bicycle race held on Sicily, Italy.The race was first held in 1907 and was won by Carlo Galetti. [2] The race disappeared from the calendar after the 1977 edition won by Giuseppe Saronni, until it was revived by RCS Sports in 2019. [3]
The 2023 Giro di Sicilia is a road cycling stage race that took place between 11 and 14 April 2023 on the island of Sicily in Italy. The race is rated as a category 2.1 event on the 2023 UCI Europe Tour calendar, and is the 27th edition of the Giro di Sicilia.
Sicily (Italian: Sicilia, Italian: [siˈtʃiːlja] ⓘ; Sicilian: Sicilia, Sicilian: [sɪˈ(t)ʃiːlja] ⓘ), officially Sicilian Region (Italian: Regione siciliana), is an island in the central Mediterranean Sea, south of the Italian Peninsula in continental Europe and is one of the 20 regions of Italy.
It includes the Madonie mountain range and some of the highest mountains in Sicily. [1] The park has six mountains that are over 1,500 metres (4,900 feet) and many more that are over 1,000 metres (3,300 ft). The highest is Pizzo Carbonara [3] at 1,979 metres (6,493 feet), [2] second in height in Sicily only to Mount Etna. [3] [1] [2]
Three of the 19 UCI WorldTeams, four UCI ProTeams, eleven UCI Continental teams and one national team made up the 19 teams that participated in the race.
