In the mid-1880s, Mount Zion Baptist Church relocated and built a two-story brick building with a marble front on Mount Vernon Avenue (present day Arlington Ridge Road). In 1930, a new church was built on Arlington Ridge Road, which the federal government condemned in 1942 for land to build the Pentagon.
