Ford's standard DOHC V6 is known as the Duratec 30. It was introduced in 1996 as a replacement for the 3.8 L Essex engine in the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable. It has 3.0 L (2,967 cc) of displacement and produces between 200 hp (149 kW) and 240 hp (179 kW).
Built at Ford's Dagenham engine plant in Essex, the 3.6-litre V8 twin-turbo diesel engine began production in April 2006. The 4.4 L variant is built in Ford's Chihuahua Engine plant in Mexico . Much speculation in the United States has focused on this engine as a possible Diesel entrant in the F-150 pickup truck and Expedition SUV. [ 2 ]
The Essex V6 is a 90° V6 engine family built by the Ford Motor Company at the Essex Engine Plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. This engine is unrelated to Ford's British Essex V6 . Introduced in 1982, versions of the Essex V6 engine family were used in subcompact through to large cars, vans, minivans , and some pickup trucks .
Ford supplied Essex V6-powered Transit vans to the police and ambulance services in the UK from the late 1960s until 1989, when it was replaced by more modern engines such as the fuel injected 2.8 and 2.9 L Ford Cologne V6 engine although the Essex V6 was even used until April 2000 in South Africa.
