Knysna (/ ˈ n aɪ z n ə /; Afrikaans pronunciation:) is a town with 76,150 inhabitants (2019 mid-year estimates) in the Western Cape province of South Africa.It is one of the destinations on the loosely defined Garden Route tourist route.

Knysna Municipality (Afrikaans: Knysna Munisipaliteit; Xhosa: uMasipala wase Knysna) is a local municipality within the Garden Route District Municipality, in the Western Cape province of South Africa. As of 2022, its population is 96,055. Its municipal code is WC048.

It was established on 6 March 2009 by amalgamating the existing Tsitsikamma and Wilderness National Parks, the Knysna National Lake Area, and various other areas of state-owned land. [1] The park covers about 1,210 km 2 (470 sq mi) of land; of this, about 685 km 2 (264 sq mi) was already part of the predecessor national parks.
