The White Hart Hotel in Braintree dates back as far as the 14th Century in its current guise, and was placed at the crossroad of two Roman roads that form the centre of Braintree town and Bocking. It was a coaching inn that ran services to Sudbury and Norwich daily, up until the arrival of the railway in 1848.

The White Hart is now privately owned, once again serving visitors to Harrogate as a hotel and conference centre. The building has undergone major refurbishments, and now includes its own restaurant area and tearoom, as well as an adjoining pub, The Fat Badger, which operates both as a hotel bar and as a pub catering to Harrogate locals.

The White Hart Hotel is one of the heritage buildings from New Plymouth, registered by Heritage New Zealand as a Category 1 Historic Place. Situated on the corner of Devon Street West and Queen Street, the White Hart Hotel was built of timber in 1886 to replace the original hotel of 1844.
