The first thread, which was carried out in the comments of Gowers's blog, would continue with the original goal of finding a combinatorial proof. The second thread, which was carried out in the comments of Terence Tao's blog, focused on calculating bounds on density of Hales–Jewett numbers and Moser numbers for low dimensions.
Terence Tao (Australia) participated in IMO 1986, 1987 and 1988, winning bronze, silver and gold medals respectively. He won a gold medal when he just turned thirteen in IMO 1988, becoming the youngest person [ 94 ] to receive a gold medal (Zhuo Qun Song of Canada also won a gold medal at age 13, in 2011, though he was older than Tao).
In number theory, the Green–Tao theorem, proved by Ben Green and Terence Tao in 2004, states that the sequence of prime numbers contains arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions. In other words, for every natural number k {\displaystyle k} , there exist arithmetic progressions of primes with k {\displaystyle k} terms.
Terence Tao is one of only three children in the history of SET to have achieved a score of 700 or greater on the SAT math section while just eight years old; Tao scored a 760. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] Julian Stanley , Director of the Study of Mathematically Precocious Youth , stated that Tao had the greatest mathematical reasoning ability he had ...
