A 230-volt LED filament light bulb, with a B22 base. The filaments are visible as the four yellow vertical lines. A LED filament light bulb is a LED lamp which is designed to resemble a traditional incandescent light bulb with visible filaments for aesthetic and light distribution purposes, but with the high efficiency of light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
Unlike an incandescent bulb, the filament is not the source of light in deuterium lamps. Instead an arc is created from the filament to the anode, a similar process to arc lamps . Because the filament must be very hot before it can operate, it is heated for approximately 20 seconds before use.
An incandescent light bulb, incandescent lamp or incandescent light globe is an electric light with a filament that is heated until it glows. The filament is enclosed in a glass bulb that is either evacuated or filled with inert gas to protect the filament from oxidation. Electric current is supplied to the filament by terminals or wires ...
Spectrum with peaks labelled taken with an Ocean Optics HR2000 spectrometer of ambient light provided by fluorescent lamps. Spectrum taken by me (apparently en:user:Deglr6328). The spectrometer appears to be about ~.6 to .8 nm off judging from the location of known peaks.
The light from the lamp consists of atomic emission lines of mercury and sodium, but is dominated by the sodium D-line emission. This line is extremely pressure (resonance) broadened and is also self-reversed because of absorption in the cooler outer layers of the arc, giving the lamp its improved color rendering characteristics.
The company claims the bulb has a lifespan of 10 years and draws only 7.5 W of power, and predicted widespread adoption of the bulb would cut energy usage worldwide by one-tenth. [ 2 ] [ 5 ] [ 6 ] Initially, the bulb is targeted at owners of public buildings that need to be lit continuously, in order to save costs associated with having to ...
The bulb has its own power supply. [4] The Palace Theater Light was once thought to be the longest-running light bulb in the world. [5] [3] It appeared in the 1970 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records before it was replaced by the Centennial Light two years later when it was discovered to be older.
