Series 9 (2005) and 10 (2006) saw the expansion of the supporting cast with new and old characters. From Series 9 onwards, the narrator would call out the episodes' names, and from Series 11 onwards the theme song was begun with the sound of a train whistle. Series 10 aired with twenty-eight episodes rather than the twenty-six of previous years.
Thomas is assigned by the Fat Controller to collect the circus train, but is warned that if there are too many trucks, he must share the work with another engine. Not wanting to miss out on any of the fun, Thomas refuses Percy and James' offers to take some trucks, and tries to pull the train all by himself, despite it being too heavy for him.
