International Drive, commonly known as I-Drive, is a major 11.1-mile (17.9 km) thoroughfare in Orlando, Florida, United States, and is the city's main tourist strip.I-Drive is located several miles southwest of proper Downtown Orlando in the southernmost limits of the city.
In late August 2010, the center was acquired by Simon Property Group's Premium Outlet sector along with the majority of the Prime Outlet centers and was renamed Orlando Premium Outlets-International Drive in September 2010. [1] The center is now sister malls to its main outlet rival, Orlando Premium Outlets-Vineland Avenue, which opened in 2000.
The Embassy Suites hotel chain was founded in 1983 by Hervey Feldman and Mike Rose, Holiday Inn Corporation's CEO. [3] Feldman was the president and CEO of Embassy Suites until 1990, after which he served as executive chairman until 1992. [4] The first Embassy Suites hotel opened in 1984 in Overland Park, Kansas.
The first business to open in the area was the two connected Marriott International hotels, Towneplace Suites and Springhill Suites. Construction began in 2014 and the hotels opened in 2016. [ 2 ] Development was also stalled while construction of the Western Way extension to Avalon Road was to be completed.
Marriott's Orlando World Center opened on March 24, 1986. At the time it was the largest hotel in Florida, and it is now the largest Marriott in the world. [2] The 2,008-room, 28-story building contains a nine-story lobby atrium, 38,000-square-foot (3,500 m 2) and also has the largest pillar-free ballroom in the world featuring 105,000 square feet (9,800 m 2) of meeting space.
