Sâmbăta de Sus Monastery (Romanian: Mănăstirea Sâmbăta de Sus) is a Romanian Orthodox monastery in Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County, in the Transylvania region of Romania. Dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God , it is also known as the Brâncoveanu Monastery ( Mănăstirea Brâncoveanu ).
Sâmbăta de Sus is located in the western part of the county, on the northern slopes of the Făgăraș Mountains, in the historic Țara Făgărașului region. It lies 19 km (12 mi) southwest of Făgăraș, 85 km (53 mi) northwest of the county seat, Brașov, and 70 km (43 mi) east of Sibiu.

The Bergsrå (Mountain Rå), Bergatrollet (Mountain Troll), or Bergakungen (Mountain King) was a mythical creature of the mountain in Norse mythology. The bergrå could be either masculine or feminine. It lived in the mountain with a court of relatives and sometimes surrounded by trolls.

Boca was made a deacon on 29 September 1935 by Metropolitan Nicolae Bălan of Transylvania. In 1939 he spent three months in the Romanian Skete of Prodromos on Mount Athos. On his return, he joined the Brâncoveanu Monastery at Sâmbăta de Sus, Brașov County, where he took his vows and was tonsured into monasticism in 1940.
It included Sâmbăta de Sus and Stațiunea Climaterică Sâmbăta villages until 2003, when these were split off to form Sâmbăta de Sus commune. The Voila commune is located in the western part of the county, in the historic Țara Făgărașului region, on the left bank of the river Olt .
Predeal, a mountain resort town, is the highest town in Romania. It is located in the Prahova Valley, Muntenia at an elevation of over 1,000 m (3,300 ft). The town administers three villages: Pârâul Rece, Timișu de Jos, and Timișu de Sus. Predeal is twinned with Macugnaga, Italy. [6]
