Seattle Pacific University was founded in 1891 by Free Methodist pioneers to train missionaries for overseas service. [3] Built on land donated by Mr. and Mrs. Nels B. Peterson, the neighborhood was originally known as Ross Station and was annexed to Seattle the same year the college was founded; the school was colloquially referred to as the Ross Seminary during this era. By mid-2024, several more institutes had been accredited at ATS. They included Kairos University which was founded in 2021 by Sioux Falls Seminary, South Dakota, Evangelical Theological Seminary Pennsylvania, Houston Graduate School of Theology Texas and Taylor College and Seminary in Edmonton, Alberta. [9]
The school decided to join the community college system, merging into district 12 under the control of Centralia Community College, becoming Olympia Technical Community College (OTCC) in 1976. [5] By 1982, a few hundred students were first awarded Associate of Arts Degree and more programs were added at the school. [5]
An undergraduate major started accepting students in the 1975–76 academic year. In 1989, the department became a unit of the College of Engineering and the Computer Engineering degree program was added. The professional master's program, which features evening courses, debuted in 1996. The five year combined BS/MS program started in 2008. [3]
