In 1989, Washington County renamed the road in the county from Oregon 219 to Hillsboro Highway. [5] This was part of an effort to improve response times by emergency services. [5] OR 219 originally continued south from Woodburn on French Prairie Road and River Road to Salem, Oregon.
Hillsboro decided in March 1919 to have the new road travel along Baseline Street, two blocks south of Main Street where the road was to run. [5] In March 1953, Washington County planners decided to have the highway widened to four lanes from Beaverton to Forest Grove. [5]
