Hmm. I exercise during my 72-hour fasts. Nothing too strenuously. I do a leisurely 3.1 mile walk around the lake. I personally prefer the 72-hour to 48-hour. If you're going to bother to get past 48, you might as well just go to sleep and wake up. I like the way food tastes when I end a 72-hour fast. I don't get the same bliss following a 48 ...
Yesterday evening, I successfully completed my (somewhat foolishly improvised) 72-hour fast. I'd like to share some reflections on the experience, as well as to consider my plans to improve on future fasts. Day 1 was strangely easy -- (I started at Sunday evening at 8.30 PM, so this recounts the Monday). Maybe it was the half case of beer that ...
Exercise: · During the fast, I committed to daily incline walks, keeping my heart rate around between 70-75%. · Monday: A 1-hour walk (heart rate at ~75%). · Tuesday: A 30-minute walk (heart rate at ~75%). · Wednesday: A 30-minute walk (heart rate at ~70%). · This activity helped me stay energized and probably enhanced the fasting benefits.
Whatever works for you, but I've heard experts call it sub-optimal because you have the keto flu symptoms at around 72 hours but not the benefit of a long fast. They say rolling 36-48 hour fasts (no symptoms) or very long (make symptoms worth it) make more sense.
Right now, my body is that of a fatso on the SAD, but about a year ago, I was doing a 72+ hour fast 2-3 times per month with frequent 36-48 hour fasts. Hunger basically becomes a non factor after a while and physiological distress/electrolyte imbalance/boredom will become your major motivators to stop fasting.
Completed First 72-Hour Fast. I’m really excited and needed to share. I know fasting is something we humans have been doing either out of necessity or with intention for thousands of years. I think it’s really cool to have participated in the practice. Originally the intention of my fast was to lose weight and my goal was 24 to 36 hours.
If you throw in a 72 every once in a while you'll feel like a million bucks and probably outlive most people you know. As long as you exercise, eat clean food and have high quality sleep. Congrats on the upcoming fast!! I did about 5 weeks where I did a 72 hour fast once a week and I didn’t have any problems.
I used to do this and it wasn’t sustainable long term so I opted for 1.5hrs of Yoga/Stretching per day during 72+ hour fasts. [deleted] • 3 yr. ago • Edited 3 yr. ago. Waste of time going to gym. Energy drops by 90%. Cortisol increases 10x. Muscles become catabolic.
Fast Monday, Eat Tuesday night, fast Wednesday, eat Thursday night. So, 2 48 hour fasts in a week. Previously, I would do a 72 hour fast each week. So, it would be more like, Eat Sunday, fast Monday, fast Tuesday, eat Wednesday. Technically, the 2 48 hour fasts give me more total fasting time per week than the 72 hour fast, right? 48 x 2 would ...
I'm currently on hour 64 of my first 72 hour fast. I'm feeling pretty decent, though exercising is really tough for me right now. I've been working my way up to this through a month of consistent OMAD and LCHF, at 23:1. I've been interested in doing more extended fasts (my goal is a 14-day fast at some point next month), but I'd like to work my ...
