Indiana. Jul 26, 2021. #1. Picked up this old gem on eBay last week – an essentially pristine pre-unibody 17-inch Macbook Pro with an OEM battery that has, get this, 13 cycles on it. It has the glossy 1920x1200 screen and the screen holds up well even by today’s standards in terms of sharpness and clarity.
Nov 1, 2016. #1. Hi there, 1) I would like to ask if it is possible to upgrade my MacBook Pro 17 inch (mid 2010) Ram up to 16GB. Apple officially states that the specific model can run up to 8 GB Ram but I also read that this MacBook can handle the 16 GB Ram. 2) Do you believe that this model will able to run the next MacOS or Sierra is the last.
as my nickname suggests, I would say absolutely Yes, for the right price. 300 euros imo sounds a good price if they are on good condition (no scratches, both GPUs working etc). a 2011 17 inch (1920x1080 screen) is day and night compared with poor relatives 13" and 15" of 2011 with their low-res screens.
Jan 1, 2018. #1. Hello and Happy New Year to everyone. This is to confirm that the MacBook Pro 17 inch from 2010 can support 16GB of memory fully under High Sierra. Below is the proof - according to the seller of this laptop, the computer recognizes all 16GB of memory and does NOT kernel panic. He recommends PC3-8500 memory 8GB chips for this.
Mactagonist said: Apple wont make something that isnt symmetrical. They also wont make the 17" visually distinct from the 13 and 15" models. A number pad is becoming increasingly a niche product. If you need one you are well advised to use either a stand alone pad or the full size Apple keyboard.
and the machine is completely dead. then quite likely Capacitor C7771 on the logic-board went bad, when it does it pulls a main voltage rail to ground causing the machine to become a potato/ie not boot up or do anything at all, its a relatively common issue with the 2008-2009 MCP79 based 15 and 17 inch MBPs...
You will now have a fully working 2011 15" or 17" MacBook Pro, running off ONLY integrated graphics! No OS X modifications are necessary, and it is not reliant on any NVRAM variable (obviously). This, short of making custom firmware for the gMux chip, is the BEST solution for rectifying the defective AMD GPU issue on these machines.
5 - M.2 to Apple "gumstick" adapters which DO work . Apple uses a proprietary "gumstick" 12+16 PCIe interface in its 2013-2017 MacBook Airs and Pro computers. On those computers, to install a M.2 NVMe drive you simply need a "M.2 to 12+16" adapter. There are a lot of different adapters on the market, and a lot of problems went from bad wiring ...
07 Shut down the computer and/or eject the USB SSD/HD drive. Put the SSD/HD drive back into the original 2011 MBP and button it up, if it was removed in an earlier step.. 08 Boot the MBP. It may still show a failed jumbled display screen. To overcome this if it happens, reboot the computer two or three times quickly.
The internals of the fan and heatsink design for the unibody models were a step up from the rail-style heat sink solution borrowed originally from the 2003 17-inch PowerBook G4; by 2008, that design, however tweaked it was, struggled with the early 2008 MBPs.
