Grateful for advice about used Gerber Sabre 408. I am in the process of buying my first cnc router for mostly cabinet work. Came across a used Gerber Sabre with vacuum board and 7,5 kw vacuum fan. Would be most grateful for some advice about if this is a better buy than a new (entry level) cnc. Asking price is $ 18k but I think it can come down ...
Re: PC does not detect CNC machine when connected. Some VFDs have a parameter setting that selects where they get their commands from - front panel; MODBUS, external potentiometer, relay contacts, and/or 0-10v input. Look in your owners manual for the VFD to find this.

Re: Software to use with Bobscnc E4. IF you want to go the open source / free route there are some packages that might be of help. 1. Inkscape is a very interesting solution. It has some CAM capability. 2. FreeCAD is an interesting take on CAD, some CAM and other engineering design tools. 3. FlatCAM for circuit boards.
Most any CAD program can be used to output the DXF files needed by the CAM programs available. LazyCAM Pro can be purchased from Artsoft, at the time you order your registration for Mach3 software. It is not the best CAM software out there, but it will allow you to begin to learn the process needed to go from Art to Part.
Use version 10 or 11 for the .dxf version. Check the box that says save text as curves. Then just import the .dxf into Mach3. Set the total depth using the layer buttin in Mach 3's .dxf import window. Once the g-code is created, use Mach3's Multipass option to cut the full depth in multiple shallow passes.
