Reflex arc demonstrated. When a reflex arc in an animal consists of only one sensory neuron and one motor neuron, it is defined as monosynaptic, referring to the presence of a single chemical synapse. In the case of peripheral muscle reflexes (patellar reflex, achilles reflex), brief stimulation to the muscle spindle results in contraction of ...
In a reflex arc, an action potential never travels to the brain for processing and so results in a much quicker reaction. When a stimulus (pain) is encountered, the signal from that stimulus will travel up the sensory neuron to the spinal column.
Hering–Breuer reflex — is a reflex triggered to prevent over-inflation of the lung; Hoffmann's reflex — also known as the finger flexor reflex; middle finger and thumb response. Test can indicate both neurological damage and nerve regeneration; often combined with the Babinski reflex test. Jaw jerk reflex
English: Explicative diagram of reflex arc; the journey takes energy and nerve impulse of a stimulus by two or more neurons. The spinal cord(3) receives sensory impulses of the body(2)- here his finger and sent to the central nervous system (afferent pathways(4), which sends impulses to the spinal motor (efferent(5)that sends turn-here the bodies arm muscle through spinal nerves(6).
This is a reflex of proprioception which helps maintain posture and balance, allowing to keep one's balance with little effort or conscious thought. The patellar reflex is a clinical and classic example of the monosynaptic reflex arc. [3] There is no interneuron in the pathway leading to contraction of the quadriceps muscle.
(C) The lateral giant interneuron executes the reflex by relaying impulses to various giant motor neurons (5) within the abdomen of the lobster. These muscular contractions result in the decapod completing the caridoid escape reaction, successfully propelling itself through the water, away from the site of stimulus.

The afferent limb of the gag reflex arc is conveyed by sensory afferents of the CN IX which terminate in the SN; the SN then projects to the nucleus ambiguus which in turn gives rise to motor efferent fibers of the CN IX/X which then mediate the efferent limb of the arc. [11]
