University of Rwanda (Kinyarwanda: Kaminuza y'u Rwanda, French: Université du Rwanda) is a public collegiate, multi campus university based in Kigali, Rwanda.Formed in 2013 through the merger of previously independent education institutions, the University of Rwanda is the largest education institution in Rwanda.
As at December 2015, there are 34 institutions of higher education in Rwanda, 11 public and 23 private. [1] In 2013, the government of Rwanda merged all public universities, leading to one public university, University of Rwanda, with six colleges.
The National University of Rwanda (NUR; Kinyarwanda: Kaminuza nkuru y’u Rwanda, French: Université nationale du Rwanda, UNR) was the largest university in Rwanda.It was located at in the city of Butare and was established in 1963 by the government in cooperation with the Congregation of the Dominicans from the Province of Quebec, Canada
College of Science and Technology - University of Rwanda, the former Kigali Institute of Science, and Technology (KIST, Kinyarwanda: Ishuri Rikuru ry'Ubumenyi n'Ikoranabuhanga rya Kigali, French: Institut des Sciences et des Technologies de Kigali [1]) in Kigali, Rwanda is the first technology-focused institution of higher education to be created by the Rwanda government.
It is situated at the University of Rwanda, [1] [2] and was established in 2018 under the funding of the World Bank's Africa Centres of Excellence II Project. [3]
University of Kigali's temporary campus is located along KN 5 Road, Boulevard de l'Umuganda, near the plush Kigali Heights in the central business district of Kigali, the capital and largest city in Rwanda. The geographical coordinates of the university campus are:01°57'03.0"S, 30°05'35.0"E (Latitude:-1.950833; Longitude:30.093056). [3]
Mutesa attended the University of Rwanda, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in human biology in 1998. Subsequently, Mutesa continued his enrolment at the institution to pursue a medical and surgical degree; he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 2003.
Kayihura is the former Acting Principal of the University of Rwanda's College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS). He served as Rector of the Institute for Legal Practice and Development (ILPD) from 2016 to 2017. In addition, He served as the dean of the National University of Rwanda's (UR) faculty of law (2007-2009). [5] [6]
